Change nations by praying with us monthly about global events and pressing concerns for World MAP’s ministry – Emailed once a month
Let Us Not Be Deceived
Last month, we looked at Jesus’ final command to us all: “Make Disciples!”
[for last month’s Prayer Corps]
If one studies all of the verses considered to be “Great Commission” scriptures in the New Testament*, there is only one other command given (in the Greek syntax): “Preach the Gospel!” (Mark 16:15).
These two commands well summarize the complete marching orders for all true Christ-followers – both then and now.
In the West, it is easy to be lulled into a comfortable complacency as Christians. But in the rest of the world, there is the slow but inexorable unfolding of much of what is prophesied in Matthew Chapter 24. We are likely just seeing the “beginning of sorrows” (v.8), but things are intensifying – especially the persecution of Christians.
As troubles come, our first inclination may be to run into the church to feel safe and secure, hoping the trials will just go away. But it is clear in the Bible that we, the Christ-followers, are to be the ones on the offensive (Matthew 16:18,19). Under the guidance and power of the Holy Spirit, it is the gates of hell that cannot withstand Christ’s Church when we move in unity and obedience to God’s Word.
Back to Basics
Jesus makes clear what all Christians should be about (Matthew 24:14): The Gospel being aggressively preached in all the nations, and then the end will come.
We do not need special charts to interpret the “signs of the times,” for no one will know the exact time of Christ’s return except God the Father (Matthew 24:36-44). We are only called to be obedient and ready (Matthew 24:44-51).
How can we be ready for Christ? What should we be doing? In short, we are to “get about the Father’s business!”
- PRAY! Consistently, urgently, even sleeplessly! Pray for open doors for the Gospel to be preached; for cultural, religious, educational and governmental barriers to be burst asunder (1 Corinthians 16:9) – that every unreached people group in the world will hear it!
- PRAY! For laborers to be raised up and sent out under the direction and anointing of the Holy Spirit to preach the Gospel and make disciples. The goal is not a megachurch, to be famous or to grow wealthy off the sheep – but instead, to lay down our lives for the cause of Christ (Matthew 9:37,38; John 10:14-17).
- PRAY! For those in government, whether or not they are Christians. Politics will never usher in the Kingdom of God. No political party is more righteous – they are all made up of sinners who are in need of a Savior. Emperor Nero was conducting vile activities in his garden, while it was lit up by the burning bodies of tar-soaked Christians impaled on poles – and yet, Paul’s exhortation was to pray for those in authority (1 Timothy 2:1-6).
As sons of the most-high God, prayer is our right, prayer is our privilege, and prayer is our responsibility. Though people of all religions “pray,” there is only one God who truly hears and actually answers when His children come to Him in prayer and supplication. That is Jehovah God, the One and only God of all who come to Him by way of Jesus Christ. So let us join Him in reaching our world to give to the Lamb the reward of His sacrifice – the hearts and lives of all people everywhere to hear His Gospel, to respond, and thus be with Him forever (2 Peter 3:9).
